‘Missing’ Congresswoman Found — in Dementia Care Home
Over the weekend, the Dallas Express reported that one of America’s congresswomen was missing. But as it turns out, Ms. Granger wasn’t missing. She is living in a care facility in the Fort Worth area of Texas.
What Happened?
Over the weekend, the Dallas Express reported that one of America’s congresswomen was missing.
Representative Kay Granger (R – Tex) last cast a vote in Congress in July. It is believed that was also the last time she was in Washington D.C.
But as it turns out, Ms. Granger wasn’t missing. She is living in a care facility in the Fort Worth area of Texas.
Her son told the Dallas Morning News, and as reported by CBS News, his mother was ‘having some dementia issues late in the year.’
Why it Matters
Kay Granger didn’t contest the recent election. But she is still on the taxpayer payroll until the current Congress is sworn in on January 3rd .
And while there is a mechanism for members of Congress to quit early, especially when there are health issues, Ms. Granger apparently chose to see through her entire term… despite being treated for suspected dementia.
It’s doubtful that outside her Congressional district anyone has heard of Ms. Granger. So it could be argued it doesn’t matter.
However, there are two relevant points to this story.
First, members of Congress are elected to represent the people in their district. Depending on how advanced her alleged dementia is, there’s a reasonable belief she wouldn’t be able to adequately represent her district.
Second, Congress isn’t a charitable organization that exists to financially support the infirm. Yet, Ms. Granger isn’t the only example of an advanced-aged politician milking the taxpayer for as long as they can.
The former Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, died in September 2023 at the age of 90. Her public appearances towards the end of her life showed her ill health. She seemed to lose concentration during Senate hearings, and required the use of a wheelchair.
Current representative, Nancy Pelosi (D – Calif) won re-election in November at the age of 84. She recently fell down the stairs during a visit to Luxembourg, and consequently required hip replacement surgery.
Finally, there is the matter of President Joe Biden. Folks have noticed for years his diminished mental acuity — all the while, the mainstream press refused to acknowledge it. And in fact, mostly hid the problem.
The report from the Wall Street Journal this weekend also highlighted how the White House actively hid Mr. Biden’s diminished brainpower from the public, admitting to some that the president found it hard to function after 4p.m.
How it Affects You
These are just three examples. But they show the disdain with which elected officers show the American public.
You will often hear politicians claim they are in Congress in order to serve the public and to help improve people’s lives.
These examples show that the public are way down the list of priorities. Once politicians are in office, they will do everything they can to stay there. And their aids will help them do that.
After all, they have a vested interest too. If their elected representative is no longer in a job, they’re no longer in a job either.
It just goes to show, the person you elect for office isn’t necessarily the person making the decisions… and they certainly aren’t acting in your best interest.
